#BrideToBride...With Love, Patrice

Hey, lady! How's life on cloud nine? You got the love of your life, you've got the ring, and now what? I've learned a lot through my experiences as a bride, weddings I've been a part of, and weddings I've helped plan...here are some helpful thoughts to help you on your way.

First and foremost...do marriage counseling to learn more about married life and being married to your future spouse!

• It can be a pastor, marriage counselor, or life coach
• Ask questions...about any and every thing that you'd have to share: finances, children, in-laws, holidays, chores, who's cooking, date nights, sex
• What are they willing to do (will do, but doesn't like to)? What will they not do (absolutely will not do, even if you asked)
• If you don't live together, find out their daily routine: he's a morning person, you're a night owl; he doesn't like to talk in the morning, you squeeze the toothpaste from the bottom, etc
• Be open and honest because you only get out of it, what you put in to it.
• It will make you closer or you'll find out you're not so compatible, ultimately saving you stress and money!

Decide what your absolute must-haves are...

• These are the things that you would regret later in life and wouldn't second-guess giving your right left kidney for...which leads to...
• Decide how valuable they are to you and budget appropriately for each of them.
• Be more flexible about everything else.

If you feel strongly about something, don't ask for anyone's opinion, just do it.

• This will alleviate the stress and struggle with satisfying others
• Unless your in-laws say they don't want to be involved, involve them. Give them some direction and a task list: guest list for their family, scout venues, rehearsal dinner locations, hunt for favors. Find out what their talents/gifts are and utilize them.

On the other hand, people will be honored to help you, so just ask if you need it, but not publicly on FB or Twitter, you could offend others.

Be mindful and appreciative of other people's time, attention, and contributions. Though it's ALL about you, it's not all about YOU. FYI being a Bridezilla isn't even close to being cute. In case you didn't know, the show has ended.

Here's the deal with vendors:

• Have every thing in writing! Check in a month out, 2 weeks, 1 week, 3 days, and day before.
• Don't skimp on your photos! That's all you have from your special day and if they don't come out great, your wedding will only be a faint, blurry memory
• If you have friends/family with special talents, use them. My graphic designer friend offered to do my invitations as my wedding gift. It's a down economy...don't expect free work and a gift!
• Cash in favors...anyone that owes you something, now's the time to get it back.
• If your budget is tight...get creative. Look into arts & pastry programs at local colleges, for inexpensive cakes, photos, etc. But, be mindful that you get what you pay for.
• Pay on time! You don't want an unhappy caterer preparing your chicken marsala.
• Hire a day-of coordinator! Do not try to do it all yourself, or put that pressure on your mother. Have a non-family member wrangle your vendors, set the reception space, and get the party started on time!

Most importantly, your wedding does not define your marriage.

• At the end of the day, you only need you and your love to get married, because no one else will care more than you do
• And 3 years from now when you're celebrating your anniversary, or getting divorced, no one will care to remember that you wore a $12 dress over your 8-month pregnant body, that you had an amazing sheet cake or that your groom wore Chuck Taylors for your wedding

The Social Media Wedding Etiquette Rules

I was on facebook the other day and came across a very interesting conversation about social media etiquette for weddings. I was shocked at all of the confusion about what was ok to post on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc when it came to wedding related annoucements and news. To clear up any confusion, check out the new rules of wedding etiquette below.

For the bride and groom:

Call your parents before pressing “post” or “tweet.”

• Your close friends and family will want to hear it straight from you first. A Facebook status or tweet might be the most efficient way to get the news out, but it’s not the most personal. You know which friends and family members would appreciate to hear the news directly from you; plus, it’s likely that older family members (like your grandparents!) don’t have Facebook or Twitter accounts and could miss the message altogether.

Change your relationship status in minutes or months...it's up to you!

• There’s no wrong or right time -- some couples even do it at the altar! Once you tie the knot, it’s up to you and your new spouse to decide when to change your relationship status or last name on your social media sites. For some couples, this can be a very important moment; for others, it’s no big deal. So if and when you’re ready to make the change, go for it!

Post pics of your engagement ring. (Everyone can’t wait to see!)

• But keep the nitty-gritty details like cost and carat to yourself. After you post your “engaged” status, your friends and family will be dying to find out what the ring looks like, so indulge them with a photo (you may want to prep with a manicure first!). It’s not bragging to share a pic with the exciting news. Leave out the other details, because how much it cost isn’t anyone else’s business -- the point is that it symbolizes the commitment you’re making. Everyone’s going to be checking out your hand for the first few months anyway, so make it easy for friends and family to admire from afar.

Designate a “tweeter of honor.”

• Enjoy your day and stay off your phone while still keeping everyone updated. Your wedding day will fly by, and if you’re focused on your phone or tablet the whole time, you’ll miss out on what’s important. Enjoy the guests who have come to celebrate with you, instead of everyone in your social media circles. Strike a balance and designate a tweeter of honor -- it could be another bridesmaid who isn’t your maid of honor (she’ll have plenty of responsibilities already!) -- to keep your social networks updated throughout the day so you won’t have to. Another option is to schedule tweets beforehand so they’re ready to go without the hassle.

Send out traditional paper invites for the main event.

• Email invites are totally okay for pre- and postwedding parties! Paper invites are the way to go for the actual wedding day. In today’s technology-based world, where your guests receive hundreds of emails a day, a physical invite has become that much more special. That doesn’t mean you have to go over the top with an invite that sings and shoots confetti either. Simple card stock and laser printing will do the trick. A paperless invite for the rehearsal dinner or morning-after brunch is a great option (especially if you want to cut down on stationery costs). Just because the invites are electronic doesn’t mean they won’t have style or be personal to you. There are plenty of sites that let you customize e-invites so that they’ll look beautiful and unique to you.

For the guests:

Wait to publicly post your congratulations.

• If the couple hasn’t made the announcement, then you shouldn’t spill the big news for them. It’s exciting when you’re the first to find out your best friend or sister is getting married, but hold off on the public congrats until they’re ready to share the news themselves. They might be waiting for an important reason (like they haven’t even told their parents yet!), and there could be hard feelings involved if others find out they weren’t in-the-know first.

Private message any wedding planning questions.

• It can be awkward for the couple’s other Facebook friends who weren’t invited. If you want to discuss wedding plans with the bride or groom, then it’s polite to do it in a private way. The couple may have hundreds of Facebook friends who aren’t on the invite list, and it’s not fair if each and every detail comes up on their news feed. Brides especially love to share wedding planning details, and she’ll appreciate a friendly ear to listen if you call to find out how it’s going. This is a busy time for the couple too, so don’t be offended if they don’t keep you up to date on every single detail!

Share pics of the bride and groom.

• But respect their request if they ask you not to post photos before they do. It’s great that you want to show what a great wedding the couple threw and Instagram the cake and the flowers. Some couples may want to wait to share photographic details of the wedding until they have photos from their professional photographer, so you should respect their choice. If you’re worried about whether you’re in the clear with posting photos, then wait until a close friend or family member of the couple does so first. Then you’ll know if it’s okay to post away!

Leave the phone in your purse or pocket.

• Posting occasionally is okay, but the couple invited you to celebrate their day, not sit there on your phone. The couple spent a lot of time planning an event that you would enjoy, so don’t spend the entire time on your phone posting about the wedding -- go have some fun! It’s okay to share the love a few times, but you shouldn't opt out of hitting the dance floor in favor of tweeting a play-by-play. Plus, having a phone or tablet out all the time can get in the way of photos, and no one wants to look back on their wedding day to see a guest more engaged with a device than their reception.

Follow directions for the RSVP.

• The couple’s inboxes are already full of wedding-related details; a text, email or DM is likely to get lost in the mix. Most paper invitations will include an RSVP card with an addressed envelope to send it back in, and couples will look for and expect responses by mail (before the deadline!). If you lose the card, then it’s okay to call and find out how the couple would prefer you to RSVP once you know whether you’ll be attending.

It's one of the happiest moments of your life. The love of your life has proposed to you and now you get to plan the wedding of your dreams. Here are....Things I've learned about planning a wedding:

- THE WEDDING IS NOT FOR YOU... It's for your family and friends... The sooner you learn that the less stressed you'll be...

- ALWAYS INCLUDE YOUR IN-LAWS... It helps set the tone you want for your new family... and I want two family to become one...

- DON'T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF- at the end of the day the only thing that can really go wrong is if the groom or the bride doesn't show up...

- ENJOY EVERY MOMENT- God willing this will only happen once... make memories to tell your children in the process...

- BE APPRECIATIVE- people are spending time and money to be apart of your special day... no matter how big or small the gesture, make sure you show your gratitude for the people that are assisting you to make your day special.

So brides-to-be... Enjoy these last moments of this chapter in your life... bask in each moment... no matter how scary or under certain they may feel... Find comfort in your true friendships, and the positive marriages in your life... only gravitate to people who speak life into your future... and always refer to 1 Corinthians 13:4–8... " Love never fails."

Our October #FavoredBrides #DIY Bridal Shower

Recently, our October Bride Clarissa had her bridal shower. Her bridesmaids hosted a beautiful DIY tea party and got most of the ideas from Pinterest! If you have been living under a rock and don't know what Pinterest is (lol), it is a social media space where you can share everything from DIY decor ideas, receipes, quotes, fashion, and event inspiration. It is a great medium for ideas if you want your event to stand out but just need a little help. Check out how Clarissa's bridesmaids used Pinterest to make her bridal shower a day she will never forget.

Nothing says vintage like mason jars. The favors were mason jars filled with cookie ingredients and placed on an old wooden ladder and crate that guests could take as they left.

Some ribbon, dollies, and colorful straws can dress up any drinking station. Very cost effective and easy to do.

Staying with the Vintage theme, the hosts used an old briefcase and lace to gather the gifts and cards.

How cute is this welcome sign? All of these unique pieces add such a nice touch, and can be found anywhere. Start with a Parent's house!

Instead of using a folding table for the desserts, substitute it for an dresser! Mismatched platters and lace runners add a nice subtle touch.

We're getting close to Labor Day. You know what that means...Party Time!

Labor Day is approaching fast. Take the day off, fire up the grill, and throw a party! Stars and Stripes or in!

Setting a both beautiful and simple table like this allows for plenty of good conversation and fun. I love the look of blue napkins and plaid table !

How cute are these Fireworks Fans from Martha Stewart? These festive, easy-to-make fans are ideal for last-minute Labor Day entertaining. You can cluster a group of them in a bowl to create a celebratory centerpiece or place one on each place setting as a colorful and cooling party favor.

Here is a easy Labor Day Recipe for Ciroc Watermelon Punch!

• In a blender put de-seeded watermelon chunks and a little ice.
• Blend until liquefied.
• Add in a few drops of Ciroc Vodka (Try the New Ciroc Amaretto Flavor!).
• Mix well.
• Pour into tall glasses.
• Muddle in 1 or 2 fresh mint leaves.
• Serve with ice cubes.

Real {Baltimore​} Wedding: Savannah and Dion John's Four Season Shindig

Savannah and Dion's July wedding was an elegant non-tradional summer affair. What was supposed to be a scenic outdoor wedding, ended up being an indoor shindig at the Four Seasons at the last minute. Check out the pictures below to see how this couple pulled off their dream day.

The balimore couple's reception featured cocktails, heavy hor d'oeuvres and small plates so that their 70 guests could mix and mingle without being restricted to a seated dinner.

Savannah is a do-it-yourself bride, So her bouquet and decor was designed and made by the bride herself. 

The wedding colors were white and yellow with purple accents. The couple used white hydrangeas and lemons for the floral arrangements.

Pay it Forward: 911 Operator Saves the Day for Bride

What a feel good story! When I heard this story on the radio this morning, I knew I had to share it with our Favored readers. A Washington state bride-to-be whose wedding dress was stolen the day of the ceremony found a fairy godmother of sorts in an unlikely way: by calling 911.

The News Tribune of Tacoma reports the bride-to-be called after her wedding dress was stolen out of her car near her home. The 911 operator who answered the call tells the paper that she took down the woman’s information as usual, but was touched by her story. “I finally figured out what was going on, and asked when the ceremony was scheduled,” Candice, who only wanted to give her first name, told The News Tribune. “When she said ‘today,’ my heart broke in two for her.” When she got off the phone, Candice asked her supervisor if she could offer her dress, which she wore in her own wedding just 18 months prior, to the bride.

“All through the call I was thinking, ‘I have a dress ...’” she said. With her supervisor’s approval, Candice got hold of the police officer who responded to the scene and texted the officer a picture of her dress to show the bride.

The bride said she believed it would fit her, so Candice and her husband went to her parents’ house, retrieved the dress, and dropped it off at the bride’s fiancé’s home. She tells the paper the bride wore the dress and texted her the next day to tell her the wedding went off without a hitch. “Candice is an extraordinary person,” her manager Vonnie Mayer tells The News Tribune. “She had something someone else needed, and she made it happen.”

Candice says she does not want the attention focused on her, and that she believes God made the situation possible. “God does awesome things, and this woman, whose wedding day might have been ruined, had her special day, after all,” she said.

Recently, Favored came across a interesting Vendor: Tanamachi Studio, Design & Lettering Boutique. This studio specializes in "hand-lettering & custom typography for editorial, lifestyle, food, and fashion brands." You may have seen Dana Tanamachi's work on several publications and not even realized it. Recently, her chalk work has been featured on well known magazine covers such as Time and O Magazine. Dana Tanamachi is a Texas-bred, Brooklyn-based graphic designer and letterer who enjoys living a quiet life and working with her hands. After designing Broadway show posters at SpotCo and working under Louise Fili, Dana opened her own design & lettering boutique, Tanamachi Studio. She has been commissioned by clients such as Google, Yahoo!, Rugby Ralph Lauren, The Ace Hotel, Tommy Hilfiger, West Elm, and Bloomingdale’s. In 2011, she was named a Young Gun (YG9) by the Art Directors Club and a Young Creative to Watch by HOW Magazine. Real {Washington​, D.C.} Wedding: Tamara & Anthony's Fairytale in the City!

Most little girls what to be a princess when they grow up, but few actually get to become one. Meet Tamara who made her Cinderella dreams come true on her wedding day with her very own Prince Charming, Anthony. Mr. and Mrs. Austin exchanged vows on August 14, 2010 in Washington, DC at St. Augustine Church followed by a reception at Top of the Town. See pictures of their "Fairytale in the City" theme wedding below.

The bride opted for a non-tradtional bouquet. The pink/purple center of the flower matches the linen and bridesmaid's dresses perfectly.

The bride is seen here with her two flower girls, who waved steamers during the ceremony instead of throwing petals.

 

The bride carried out her Fairytale theme with a Cinderella inspired dress. The bridesmaids wore two different style Diane Von Furstenberg's dresses.

 

The reception location, Top of the Town, had a full view of the city which was a perfect backdrop for the royal wedding cake.
